How to Overcome Anxiety and depression
What causes you depression in the first place is the kind of thoughts that saturates your mind. And these thoughts can be expressed in words, so by your own words, I can easily notice if you are depressed or not. In the same way, you can get away from anxiety and depression by changing the thoughts that saturate your mind and you can do this by speaking and listening to good words.
At a point in my life, I suffered a lack of money, which you might want to call 'poverty '. At that phase, it seemed like all hope was lost, I wasn't used to such kind of life, coupled with the fact that I had a whole lot of bills to pay. I couldn't even feed well, it was just a phase of critical management. But there's something I noticed then, because of the thoughts of hopelessness and shame that filled my mind, I couldn't just say anything positive about life. I was tired, withdrawn, isolated, and devastated. Nothing got better until I intentionally changed something.
I sincerely desired a change and so I went to the Word to search for it. And I saw in prove 12:12
"Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression. But a good word makes it glad."
That was the answer, check yourself or any other person suffering from depression, it all started with being anxious about something and then graduates to depression. That's why Jesus in all this teaching only handled anxiety, which was the root cause of depression. And from proving 12:25, the solution was ' a good word'.
So I had to go ahead, in search of good words about my present and future which I started to declare every day even though I did not feel good initially. I discovered words of hope, words of confidence, words of assurance, and trust which I wrote down and began to declare daily until they became my consciousness.
These are some of the words I used (paraphrased);
You are more valuable than the birds of her and the lilies of the field which never toil, Yet your Father takes care of them, will he not also take care of you? Luke 6:25-26
Before you ever asked, your father knew what you needed and will provide for you. (Luke 6:32)
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not be afraid because I am not alone. (Psalm 23: 4)
When I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinth 12:10)
I will not be anxious about anything, instead, I will lay it at God's feet… and allow his peace to saturate my mind. (Phil 4:6-7)
He has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you, so I am not alone. ( Heb 13:5)
God shall supply all my needs; so strength, Joy, and provision are supplied to me. (Col 4:19)
The joy is the Lord is strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)
God framed the world with His Word, so I can also frame my world with good words. (Heb 11:2)
There's so much more you can discover by yourself by using Bible references. However, you can start with these.
You can choose a routine, make those declarations every morning when you wake up, and every night before bed. You can choose a verse weekly or 2 passages weekly. The most important thing is that you make declarations of good words about both your present situation and your future. Say it until it becomes your consciousness.
Words of advice:
Try your best to avoid listening to saddening songs, or movies, or staying around people that would only make you feel worse. You don't need that at the moment. You need all the good words you can get, That's your medicine.
If you think you need medical attention, seek one, but don't let it replace this medication, because good words will accelerate your recovery.
Never forget this, you are extremely loved by God and he had not left you.
If you don't have Jesus in your life yet and you want to enjoy the word of God working in your life, it's a really simple step. All you need to do is to believe with your heart that He can save you, then say this confession, " Lord Jesus, today I believe that you are the Son of God and the Saviour of my soul, today I accept your life into me. I declare that I am now a child of God. Thank you Jesus for saving me today. Amen.
That's it!
Congratulations, I will love to hear your testimony soon.
Thank you so much ma. This is truly helpful.
